From your hotel we drive to the western side of Quito to take a ride on the city’s new Teleferico, which gives us a spectacular view over the city and its surroundings. The cable car whisks us from an altitude of 2950 m to a lookout over 4050 m within 15 minutes. As the Teleferico is located on the eastern side of Pichincha Volcano we will be able to enjoy fantastic and inspiring views of Quito and more than 14 peaks of the Andes. Relax, sit down or visit the shopping center, food court or one of the exclusive restaurants up there. If you are already acclimatized you can go for a walk up the slopes to the summit of Rucu Pichincha Volcano. This ca. 2-3 hours hike up and 1.5 hours down will take you through the typical Paramo (highland) vegetation of the Andes up to the rocky summit of Rucu Pichincha. From the 4.700m (15450 ft) high summit you have great sights on a clear day, with Quito down in the valley below you and the surrounding snow capped volcanoes Cayambe, Antisana and Cotopaxi in the horizon. After having lunch you descend back to the Teleferico and return to Quito. -/L/-
